It can be stored efficiently, freeing up cabinet or freezer space. To use ThermaFreeze, the pads are hydrated and then frozen. The unique properties of ThermaFreeze provide greater thermal protection in the shipment of perishables, greatly reducing product spoilage. When the product is used in a cooler it provides more hours of cooling power than ice, gel packs, or ice bricks. It also may be refrozen and reused many times! ThermaFreeze pads are manufactured dry. The pads are constructed with a plastic film on one side and a non-woven fabric on the reverse. A 6-cell x 4-cell pad, measures 15" x 10" and weighs one ounce when dry. Each cell contains a biodegradable, non-toxic, crystallized polymer compound that absorbs water on contact, and holds the water in a gel-like state.When hydrated, the pad weighs 24 ounces. Hydration takes only seconds per pad and is done by spraying the non-woven fabric side of the pad with warm water. Once hydrated, it is ready to be placed in a freezer and will be fully frozen in approximately 2 hours. When used as a hot compress application, it can be placed in a standard microwave for approximately 30 seconds and is ready for use. When thawing begins, a pad continues to provide a cooling affect. Due to the non-woven fabric side and because of the same technology that allows for a pad to be hydrated, the water that is suspended in gel state will begin to evaporate out of the cell. To ensure product durability, keep hydration size under 1 inch (3/4 of an inch is the recommended size). Drying Off: After hydrating the product, be sure to thoroughly dry it off before freezing. This makes sure that your ThermaFreeze stays dry! For Cold: Place in freezer until frozen, it takes just about the same time as water takes to freeze. You may refreeze ThermaFreeze after it thaws out for reuse. If cells have shrunk over time due to evaporation, you can rehydrate ThermaFreeze. *For Hot: Place in microwave for no more than 30 second intervals until desired temperature is reached. Remove carefully with cloth or towel. Do not touch directly. For Storage: Remove from freezer and leave them out to evaporate fully. They will evaporate slowly over time, possibly a week or two.
